9) "We Ain't What We Used to Be"

Another wonder of the spiritual world is the miracle othat God transforms us.  It is a supernatural work of the Holy Spirit.  All of us can testify of some point that made an eternal difference in our lives.  For some it may have been dramatic, for others it amy have come as a calm assurance.

I.  Justification by faith is the essence of our salvation, but new birth is the immediate fruit.
    A. No man is born again without first bowing at the foot of the cross.  Ephesians 2:4,5; John 3:14,15
    B. God can grant the inward working of the Holy Spirit because we are covered with the righteousness
        of Christ.  Romans 5:1
    C. New birth brings a new nature.  Romans 5:5 - It breaks the slavery of selfishness.

II. We must continue to grow - 2 Peter 3:17,18
    A. There is need to cooperate with the Holy Spirit.  Romans 8:1,2
It is in acting on His Word that we are transformed, our characters established.  1 John 1:5-7
    B.  Progress is in Beholding
⇒Trusting ⇒Obeying.  2 Corinthians 3:18
    C.  The Christian life is a marathon, not a sprint.  Hebrews 12:1; Matthew 10:22

III. The ultimate transformation is when Jesus comes again.  Philippians 3:20,21; 1 Corinthians 15:51-54
Corruption puts on incorruption.  The image of God completely restored.
