8 - Weighed In The Balances

Sin is an infection, especially cherished sin.  It causes spiritual blindness and pride.  It is in this condition that Daniel 5 opens to us.  The armies of the Medes and Persians have surrounded the city and threaten it, but the inhabitants of the city are oblivious to impending danger.

I.   The king has a party - Daniel 5:1-4
     A.  It is intemporate - drinking wine and gluttony - vs. 1
     B.  It becomes profane and blasphemous - vs. 2
     C.  Babylon's sin has reached its full measure - Genesis 15:16; 1 Thessalonians 5:1-3

II.  The Lord interrupts with a message of judgment - Daniel 5:5
     A.  Handwriting on the wall
     B.  Only Daniel can interpret it
     C.  Daniel reminds the king of his sin - Daniel 5:18-23 - He is without excuse
     D.  The message in Mene, Mene, Tekel, Uparsin - Daniel 5:26-28
